I agree. But I'm on the side of the farmworkers, not the farmers or the
gardeners.
Agriculture as now practiced requires something very close to slave
labor -- and I place the welfare of those workers above the welfare of
humans not yet born.
And the post was about the far distant future. I picked scrubbing
toilets as my contrast because I really suspect all those who think
toilet scubbing is such a horrible task have probably never scrubbed a
toilet, just as those who think neolithic agriculture as such a
wonderful thing have never spent 10 hours a day kneeling and grinding
the grain for the evening meal. Lou's picture of neolithic agriculture
ignores women and the tasks of making grain edible. (Grain raising,
ancient or modern, is only a small part of having a consumable product.
The real work begins after the grain is raised and harvested.)
