I agree. But I don't think Michael is worried about my feelings. He is
probably much more worried about the people who tangle with me, since the
level of sarcasm and hostility I can generate is similar to the conclusion
of the film "Life and Death" that I alluded to last night. I have no
objections to being baited, provoked or whatever. It gets my juices
flowing. But for the good of PEN-L, I try to rein in my polemical style out
of respect for Michael and what he is attempting. It is very difficult to
create a space where tenured professors and upstarts like myself can
exchange views. Michael has been doing this for the better part of a decade
and I tip my hat to him.
