the union he was in -- the Screen Actors' Guild --  is fine, while RR
started as a "New Deal liberal" Democrat and then shifted to the right.
This shift was cultivated and encouraged by the rich & conservative cronies
of his wife Nancy's father and likely by the anti-communist witch hunt,
which forced him to choose sides, so he ended up as the spokesmodel for
General Electric and then for the Southern California GOPsters. I don't
know when (or if) he quit SAG, but there have been a lot of conservatives
-- like Charleton Heston -- in it from the beginning.
