nationalism

Even such a champion of the nat-libbing movements as the late Amilcar
Cabral of Guinea-Bissau
began to see the dead ends of nationalist -libbing in Africa ( incl.
Guinea -Bissau) when he admitted
to its essentially bourgeois class programme and nature in the last years
of his life-- and that all the post
WW2 nat libs were tied to the world economy and could not escape its logic
of imperialisms
domination and its client states repression against the Masses -in the
absence of socialistic
relations of production and new workers movements breaking out from
bourgeois -reformist controls.
(I think the actual statement is quoted in Basil Davidson's book on
Nationalist movements).

Of course Mr. Cabral stiill seemed to hold out the false hope that USSR and
Blocs clients in nat-libbed
states would not keep the masses in a state of thralldom and vassalage .
But he was wrong
as he did not see/own up to the state capitalist nature of the ex-USSR en
bloc . The USSR and bloc ended up
being not a stronger bloc economically ,but a much weaker one so it could
in the end not well
compete with western imperialism led by the USA/ W. Euro. bloc + Japan,
etc. and the pressures of lack
of necessary accumulation of capital , technological backwardness vis a vis
the USA led bloc , undermined
its state cap order and this bloc imploded first.

But now the Cold war is over , and the USA bloc too is fracturing into a
Euro bloc, Yen bloc and Dollar
bloc, as now its moving slowly toward big metro. imperialist groups for
themselves and devil take the hindmost.
New metro. blocs taking their peripheral nat-libbed domains with them in
tow is seeming to become more the order of the day , but how this workers
out fully will take a few years more to decide .

But the workers struggles and movements should defend their own class
terrain and not get sucked into
taking sides in interimperialist battles. Internationalism of toilers
against capital should be the watchword--
not outmoded bourgeois nationalist programmes..
