Misrule Britannia
And now, to illustrate its embarrassment about the incident, the following
statement has been issued.
A Ministry of Defence inquiry into the incident has found that the unit's
commanding officer, Maj. Alan Marshall of the Royal Irish Regiment, had made
"a grave mistake", and "an error of professional judgement" by diverting from
his authorised route on August 25, when the 11-man patrol was seized
Wisely they have decided not to court marshall him. That would only create
more controversy.
He has played his part sufficiently by accepting the blame.
Tricky for imperialist powers to intervene at will in third world countries
affairs if simple mistakes by unit commanders can be so costly.
