     I did not catch this in your original message, but
one of the more shocking developments has been
an apparent increase in discrimination against the
Roma and the Sinti in Central and Eastern Europe
since the dissolution of the Soviet bloc.
      In a book on State and Discrimination, the late
Lynn Turgeon actually demonstrated that in those
countries discrimination against both women and
the Roma and Sinti was at its lowest during the
Stalinist period, an uncomfortable fact for many of us.
