cleaning up the mail

Louis Proyect has scolded for people on this list as well as on his own
for sending mail the cannot be read easily.  He mostly complains about the
formatting where messages have irregular indentations.  I am also annoyed
when the messages come in where they need a special reader in order to
interpret them when I just read messages with Telnet.

I'm not sure what causes this.  Some people's messages have it all the
time.
