False. It continues to be an example for many in the Third World. The FARC in Colombia is basically the rural wing of the CP, which still believes that a Soviet Colombia would be a vast improvement over what they have now. If you hadn't noticed, the US just committed 1 billion dollars to destroy the FARC and the ELN in the name of stopping the drug traffic. If this turns into another Vietnam, radicals in the US are going to have the responsibility to explain the goals and history of the FARC, just as we did with the NLF.
Former Soviet Union, not the formerly existing Soviet Union. I.e., Russia & its neighbors during the last 10 years. We can debate the merits of the 1917-1991 USSR; there are no merits to debate post-1991, unless you like gangsters with state power.
Why did that FARC guy hug the president of the New York Stock Exchange?
