Brad, our resident curmudgeon, is partially correct. During the '60s,
many of us thought the rollback of capitalism was possible. Even so, we
were aware of the vast military superiority of NATO. Only concerted
action from within the capitalist countries seemed likely to restrain
those who would protect capitalism at all costs.
At the same time, someone in the Soviet Union would have to be pretty
foolish to put all their eggs in a basket of Western leftists.
