RE: RE: Sid Schniad on China and the WTO

quoth Nathan, among other truths --
. . . The question is how given national political systems, workers can
exert political pressure against the global system. Voting "no" against
expansion is a strategic tactic, not a moral statement. . . .

Yeah, and futhermore . . .
A trade restriction inhibits two parties, not just one.
The fact that the U.S. is in and China out of the WTO
is irrelevant. The inconsistency, which some feel
compelled to call hypocrisy, is political opportunity.
If the WTO sanctions China for labor rights violation,
all the more opportunity for others to point to
violation in the U.S. Just as Malcolm X set out
to petition the UN regarding racial injustice in
the U.S., an international body that must consider
labor rights can be opened to petition on U.S.
matters.

If anyone doubts the AFL-CIO is concerned with
increasing its share of the workforce, they
are woefully misinformed.
