[PEN-L:11665] Re: Clarification
Michael,
I was away for a couple of days. I am sorry that this thread fell off of the wagon. I think it was one of the best I have seen since being on this list. Both the substantive and epistemological questions and range of opinions was strikingly clear, I thought. I don't know. Maybe it is just me.
I learned a lot from the expert economic historians here. I've noticed that e-mail threads don't usually go anywhere unless there is some disagreement. I take this to be a demonstration of the principles of dialectics: contradiction is what underlies movement and change, including in thought. So, I can say that even those with whom I disagree on this topic were necessary for the development of the collective thought.
I know it is your job to keep the contradictions from becoming too antagonistic, so...
Oh well, c'est la vie ( or is this la guerre ?).

I sympathize with Jim B. and everyone else who has become frustrated with
this the participants displayed pen-l at its best. Now, it has
degenerated. For that reason, I called for an end.
Everybody wants to get in the last word, so it goes on.
