[PEN-L:9711] Selective Service System termination
Some Members of Congress are attempting to terminate the Selective Service System. A golden opportunity. Call your Rep. and tell them to support this.
-------------------
Dear Friends,
I wanted to bring to your attention the battle on the Selective Service
System. The bottom line is that agency termination will save nearly 20M
this year and over 20M henceforth.
> Moreover, the agency is wasteful because:
>
> 1) Modern technology makes lists available of more men than the
> military could ever rapidly train and "muster in" in the event of national
> emergency
>
> 2) the Department of Defense has said that draft registration could
> be stopped "with no effect on military mobilization requirements, little
> effect on the time it would take to mobilize, and no measurable effect on
> military recruitment."
>
> Letters supporting HR 1812 would help but the real need is for support:
>
> a) Support the Walsh Committee Report language terminating the agency
>
> b) OPPOSE ANY AMENDMENT that might come up trying to reinstate the agency
