[PEN-L:9705] Re: Mumford
One very current author who uses Mumford is sociologist Eugene Halton, based
at Notre Dame. His "Bereft of Reason: On the Decline of Social Thought and
Prospects for its Renewal" (Univ Chicago Press, 1995) is well worth reading.
He berates postmodernism and Rorty, labelling them "fragmatists", and calls
instead for renewed interest in Mumford and C. S. Peirce as a means of
revitalizing social inquiry. One does not have to agree with the main
argument to get a good introductory handle on Mumford.
