[PEN-L:9660] Book Recommendations
For what it is worth, I recommend the following books for analysis,
criticism, support or whatever:
"Albert Speer: His Battle With the Truth" by Gitta Sereny, Alfred a Knopf,
NY, 1995
Highly recommended for all the neo-Speers and neo-Eichmanns working for the
IMF, World Bank, WTO, agencies of the US Goverment, "Think" Tanks etc.
"False Dawn: The Delusions of Global Capitalism" by John Gray, The New
Press, NY, 1995
(A polemic by a former neoliberal globalist, Prof of European Though at LSE
and former Thatcherite true believer now recanting his former self and
beliefs. The "Economist" notes: "This book is teeming with arguments and
ideas...it is hard to put down, and economic liberals would do well to test
their ideas against it."
"The Globalisation of Poverty: Impacts of IMF and World Bank Reforms" by
Michel Chossudovsky, Zed Books (London and NY), Pluto Press (Australia),
Fernwood Publishers (Canada) and IPSR (South Africa), 1998. Explores the
perennial contradiction between search for/consolidation of sources of cheap
labor on the one hand versus the search for new and expanding markets
(purchasing power) on the other hand; goes beyond usual underconsumptionism
however to analysis of structural impacts, dynamics and contradictions
associated with neoliberal globalism.
