And Alexander Cockburn, in identical items running in New York Press
and Counterpunch, gave an uncritical outlet to Larry Pratt in
advocating - with no objection from Cockburn - that teachers be
armed. Pratt approvingly cited the case of a teacher in South Africa
who recently shot a "bellicose" student. Pratt, the head of Gun
Owners of America, thinks Charlton Heston is a compromising sellout.
He had to resign from Pat Buchanan's 1996 campaign when it was
revealed that he spoke at a Christian Identity conference. Though of
course he denies being a racist, Pratt's speech topic at the
conference was reportedly the evils of the 14th amdendment, which is
seen by libertarian nutcases as Washington's quashing of states'
rights.
