If I recall correctly,Ventura was in the front line alongside Charlton
Heston defending the constitutional right to bear arms in the aftermath of
the Littleton, Colorado shootings.

Worse than that, he popped off that if there had been
an armed security guard, the tragedy could have been
averted. Of course, there was an armed guard.
As Wills reports, Jesse's view of gun control is
scrambled. That and his view of some social
services is more Republican than not. Otherwise,
his super-macho image lets him put forward
unusually liberal positions on some social
issues (i.e., gay rights). In economics he
seems to be firmly centrist.
