[PEN-L:8775] Michael Perelman's latest
>You don't even have to read the book to review it on Amazon.

>Michael Perelman
If this is the same book I have read the first three or four chapters of
when it was in progress, then I am safe in calling it vintage Perelman,
which is to say four-star. He compares economic history with Stephen Jay
Gould's concept of "punctuated equilibrium"--a brilliant observation-- and
casts doubt on whether economics can predict the future, etc. It is written
in his usual translucent style. The only problem, as far as I can tell, is
that the book will mostly be sold in places like Labyrinth or stocked in
libraries. One of these days Perelman will write a book for Verso or
Monthly Review and get the audience he deserves. In the meantime, I urge
people to order it from amazon.com, you'll learn a lot.
