PRONOUNCEMENT OF THE ZAPATISTA FRONT OF NATIONAL LIBERATION AGAINST
THE WAR IN YUGOSLAVIA

!STOP THE AGGRESSION OF NATO AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF SERBIA AND
KOSOVO!

The bombings decided by the new gentlemen of war and money carried
out by the forces of NATO does not seek to save the rights of the
Kosovar people, limited by the chauvinistic "Great Serbia" politic
of the government of Milosevic but only advances once more on the
road to finishing with the limits that anteriorly existed so much
in the land of the national states like in that of the
international community.

With this action the oligarchy of North American finance so
sensible to the inversion of capital in the military industry puts
on its knees not simply the people and governments of the Balkans
but over all the governments of occidental Europe. There exists an
undeniable relation between the sprouting of the Euro, European
unity, and the North American action of making peons of the
different European governments.

Like this, the government of Clinton, but overall the financial
oligarchy, sends a message to the world. There does not exist a
problem, big or small that is not beneath the reach of the United
States. At the same time a warning to Europe: whatever process of
transnational unity should be subordinate to the exterior North
American politic. In this sense the defeated principals of this war
are France and Germany; putting in crisis, before being born, the
possibility of an economic block that the competency of the United
States can make.

The pain and the oppression of the Kosovar people represents no
more than an excuse for the gentlemen of money and war. Their
hypocritical comportment is verified in the manner in which they
limited the independent vindications of the Kosovar people in the
conference of Rambouillet, opposing the elemental right, guaranteed
in the constituent letter of the United Nations Organization, of
autodetermination.

The result of the bombings has not signified a betterment in the
way of life of the inhabitants of Kosovo or a limitation of the
"Great Serbia" ideology, on the contrary now there are hundreds of
thousands of Kosovar refugees and at the same time the sentiments
of ethnic cleansing have been inflamed like never before in the
rest of Yugoslavia.

The idea expressed by cynicism disguised as humanism, according to
which: "sometimes it is necessary to make war to stop war" has been
demonstrated to be totally false in the Balkans. In the end it is
necessary to make war because this is big business, simply one
needs only look at the most recent reactions of the different stock
markets. The suffrage of the people of Kosovo is well worth some
more points in the speculative indices.

The Zapatista Front of National Liberation pronounces a big NO to
the war of Clinton, and his European peons, Jospin, Blair,

Shroeder, Aznar, etc. that permit themselves to be used for the
consolidation of the American hegemony in the world, the likes of
which one more time have demonstrated the profound scorn that it
feels for the international community and the assembly of national
states. Never will a bombing of the civil population have a noble
end.

At the same time we demand that the right of autodetermination of
the people of Kosovo be guaranteed. The Kosovars of Albanian origin
represent 80 percent of the population, after the death of marshal
Tito, the regime of Milosevic revived the oppressive
ultranationalistic ideology of the ethnic minorities, for that
reason it eliminated the statute of autonomy that Kosovo had,
impeded the utilization of the Albanian tongue and took away the
traditions, culture, and form of social organization of the
majority of the people of Kosovo. The criminal bombing does not
have to blind us. Milosevic is a dictator. We can and we should
oppose ourselves as much to the bombings as to the oppressive
politic and tyranny of Milosevic.

Under the same logic of the defense of the right to autonomy and of
respect between the majorities and minorities that coexist in the
same territory, the FZLN pronounces against the actions of
terrorist groups guaranteed by international oligarchies intent at
the same time on squashing the rights of the Serbian minority in
Kosovo, supporting the war and the bombings of NATO.

The only exit that the FZLN raises as ethical and humanly correct
is the non-interference of external powers in the conflict. The
ethnic groups who share the same territory in Kosovo are the only
ones who, by means of dialogue, can and should resolve their rights
of autodetermination and their forms of coexistence.

!No to the bombings against Serbia, yes to the autodermination of
the Kosovar people!

!No to NATO, no to Milosevic!
