Actually it is not well known but Trotsky played golf too.  He is
credited with inventing the gadget people use to fish their balls
out of ponds.  Prior to that they were obliged to wade in and
soak their breeches.

I'm a sentimental guy myself.  In fact, my dad told me once he
attended the 1940 CLA convention.  After that he joined the Army
in Western Europe and, though in the engineer corps, ended up
being used as an interpreter, since his Yiddish was sufficiently
close to German.  He was among the first to see the camps.  I
never heard him express any misgivings about his role.  I think
he did the right thing myself.
