The trouble with all proofs of the existence of god is that they do
not begin from the necessary premise of all human thought, the
non-existence of god. This is perhaps easier to grasp for anyone
for whom atheism is a birthright rather than an achievement, since
it is always a temptation to see one's own experience as being
a necessary human experience, and thereby see nothing odd about
going to the trouble to prove a historically given common fact.

I have changed the To: on this post, since the topic seems rather
far from the concerns of the Seminar.
