Re: [PEN-L:4109] Political Economy Texts
Dear Paul:
I am interested in the responses you might get. Pol Eco texts are many
and several of them written by political scientists. I can think of
Caporaso and Levine "Theories of Pol Eco" Cambridge. Whe you insert the
term "global" it then takes on another twist. I can think of
"Globalization in Question" by Hirst and Zeitlin (Blackwell).
I am interested in developing a basic course in economics, that would
combine micro, macro, and development econ courses. I am mainly
interested in introducing various concepts and imparting analytical skills
to our largely economically illiterate student population. I am not
interested nor do I want to impose indifference curve analysis and
consumer choice. However, I would like them to know about microeco
efficiency, demand/income elasticity, economic stability, growth rates,
and say balance of payments problems for developing countries. I am
inclined use the case study approach for introducing such concepts and
analytical methods.
Do you and pen-l members have some suggestions as to what could contribute
to a "skill set" for such a course? We have 20 two hour lectures. All
suggestions are welcome, preferably privately so as to not to clutter up
the net.
