[PEN-L:3935] Creeping repression
Clinton's went on and on in his San Francisco speech yesterday. I was
running errands and was in and out of my car, but he was still talking
every time I turned the radio on.
Today's paper reports that the speech was about his vision of
foreign affairs. But I heard other things deeply disturbing.
Clinton talked about terrorists, and the independent threat they
offer to local communities. He wants to fund local police and fire
departments -- and presumably school teachers and mayors and others --
to be ready to cope with acts of terrorism in YOUR community.
This propagation of fear is another step on a trail we are already,
unaware, traveling along in this country. It is different than building
fall-out shelters. This funds the police to watch you.
This will unfold in ways that let's us embrace repression as a
safety device. I vote for impeachment.
