Whatever disagreements I have with Doug, he convinced me on
this point a year or so ago, and I have tried to exclude "postmodernism"
from my vocabulary. Besides, my fundamental position is that the
term modernism covers everything from the first enclosures to that
date in the future when the last capitalist state collapses. My only
academic publication was a longish article arguing, in effect, that
the whole of bourgeois culture was condensed in *Paradise Lost*,
and that nothing much has changed since. Certainly, Butler's *Bodies
That Matter* is not much more than a longish footnote to *Paradise
Regained*.
