[PEN-L:3194] Re: selling Manhatten and Very Long Waves

>>> "Rosser Jr, John Barkley" <rosserjb@xxxxxxx> 02/10 2:18
     I agree with Jim Craven that what is needed is to deal
with ongoing wrongs and crimes and oppression where they
are going on, rather than attempting to undo history.

Charles: Of course, Jim Craven can speak for himself, but I didn't read him to say some land recovery is off of all Indians' agendas. When I worked for the Yurok of Northern California in a land recovery project, the idea of land recovery was not mine. I was working on their political program. Barkley's general argumentation undercuts most Indian land recovery claims.

Also, I do not at all think of this thread as spam or unrelated to political economy of today. Not only are there many Indian economic struggles going on today. The question of whether or not Indians had private property or communal property speaks directly to such issues as the economic "nature" of humans, the rationally self-interested individual or Robinson Crusoe model of economics , etc. Many anti-communist arguments are based on the assertion that individual selfishness is human nature. The evidence of many communal societies in human history refutes this.
