[PEN-L:1900] A few takes on Daimler

Yesterday Michael E posted a section of the current Far Eastern
Economic Review that listed "Asia's 10 leading companies."
At the bottom was Daimler-Benz (actually already DaimlerChrysler);
its biggest jump in categories was in long-term vision, from 35 to 13,
however such an impalpable can be quantified. Neither position takes
account of Daimler's runaway lead in fuel cell technology, which may
permit the company to substantially re-shape the world over the next
decade or two (given that we are not already dogpaddling about by then).

Moving backward through DaimlerChrysler's own online daily news sheet,
I came up with a few items of special significance, one of them
an altogether strange riddle for all to contemplate. On this very
quiet day I'll list them in separate posts.

     Daily News - 12/18/1998

   Breakthrough in Fuel Cell Development
Stuttgart, 12/18/1998 - DaimlerChrysler has announced progress towards
the development of the drive system of the future. Using the liquid
fuel methanol, researchers were able to reduce the volume and weight
of the components required for hydrogen production by 40 percent,
   without any reduction in performance.
DaimlerChrysler is working with partners on the development of fuel
cells for motor vehicles. The company hopes to be the first to
introduce a complete fuel-cell system sometime in 2004.
