[PEN-L:519] Re: Integrity/Male leftists/Apology

The generalization about male leftists was a response to the trivializing
put downs that followed my message which, as I said before, was not about
words and numbers but about setting the record straight.

Apologies to the membership for the generalization - but I hope those who
triggered it reflect about their behavior. I have learned about the
problems of generalizing in the spur of the moment. But it was not
without cause. I experienced those messages as employing a trivializing
strategy. That may not have been the senders intentions - but we cannot
read minds - only what is in the screen.

We may be in virtual space, but we cannot leave our gender and other
aspects of who we are outside virtual communication and expect that it
will not affect our interpretation of events; we are, aren't we? an
"ensemble of social relations" all of which affect our consciousness and
understanding of our experiences.

Michael,

No matter what comes down afterwards, this is positively my last message
on these issues. If I ever write again to Pen-L, it will be about
something totally unrelated. I accept my responsibility for at least part
of the mess and I hope you accept yours. This would not have happened had
you acted swiftly and forcefully to challenge, publicly -- not off line--
the unwarranted slurs against Don Roper. After all, Pen-L has been making
extensive use of CSF resources for years and that includes a considerable
amount of labor time that Don has unselfishly poured into CSF to make sure
it works.

Best,

Martha
