[PEN-L:406] Re: On WW1 writings
Thanks to Valis for the list of War novels -- and for all his other posts,
which I read avidly.
I want to mention another war book. As an Irish kid growing up in
the 1930s I learned to hate Winston Churchill for what he did in Ireland.
And so was never taken in when the propaganda beatifying him came out
during WW II.
Churchill deserves major responsibility for the WW I slaughter at
Gallipolli. Note that Churchill poured the Australians and New Zealanders
into the graves there, another manifestation of colonial mentality.
Gallipolli -- a good read about a horrible slaughter.
