Whittle bombed but Channel One is alive and well,
broadcast into 12,000 schools. It is owned by a
conglomerate called Primedia which is a $3
billion a year company, of which a substantial
interest is owned by Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts.
Channel One's profits are buried in Primedia's
larger divisions but it is probably in the
neighborhood of one to three hundred million
annually.
I happen to know this because I just did a piece
on Channel One with Alex Molnar which will be
released this week, on April Fool's Day.
