[PEN-L:6819] Re: revolutionary ecological fiction

Recently Thad Williamson wrote:

I've been compiling an annotated bibliography of
recent proposed alternatives to capitalism; chapter headings include "market
socialism", "ecological alternatives", "utopian fiction", and "everything
else" (i.e. political scientists, self-published folks, theologians, etc.)
While I'm eager for new references in all these areas, the "utopian fiction"
part probably could use the most improvement so if you or anyone else has
suggested refs please pass 'em on!

Comment: How are theologians, political scientists, and utopian fiction
alternatives to capitalism? I assume you must mean theologians, etc. who
suggest alternatives to capitalism since in themselves they are not a type
of alternative to capitalism at all. Surely you should reconsider this division
if you really want to consider different kinds of alternatives to capitalism,
in each chapter. The only heading that seems a clear alternative is market
socialism. There are oodles of different kinds of socialism, as well as
non-capitalist anarchism, including some who stress "ecological alternatives"
e.g. Murray Bookchin. Anyway you could just put market socialism,
ecological alternatives, political scientists, theologians, etc. as
sub-headings under utopian fiction ;-). What happened to Marxism and
non-market forms of socialism?
  Cheers, Ken Hanly
