[PEN-L:4759] re: cat poem

EAU DE KITTY FROU-FROU written by maggie coleman

Eau de Kitty Frou-Frou, the little French cat,
lives in the inner city,
and her mistress loves to chat!

Eau de Kitty Frou-Frou goes out every day,
strutting the metal ladder
to the home across the way.

Frou-Frou sits, meows, her nose against the glass
looking for Tammy Twopence
who rarely sees trees or grass.

Tammy and Frou-Frou meet, most mornings at nine,
sitting on their metal seat
making up stories so fine!

Fire escapes are special, not here or there,
in between child places,
up in the city's thick air.

Tammy talks to Frou-Frou, who purrs her delight.
They have world wide adventures,
where their fantasies take flight.

>From their fire escape, they fly high and free,
away from rage and anger,
from adults and poverty.

They meet girls (and cats), from Laos to Paree,
wearing hats, shoes, and dresses,
they buy on a shopping spree.

Dusk softens the shape of city dirt and soil,
Tammy's father trudges home,
and her mom goes out to toil.

Tammy says; "Good night," sliding into her room,
to cook her daddy's dinner,
and sweep with her little broom.

Eau de Kitty Frou-Frou, the little French cat,
struts to her chatting mistress,
and eats dinner in her flat.
