Max says, amongst many other things, "I wouldn't call Perot a right winger."
I must disagree. In some senses I think he was more right wing than even
Buchanan. For instance, if married people working for him got divorced, or
in trouble, he had them dismissed. He had a department in his company which
was dedicated to reviewing the private lives of his employees to make sure
they were living in a manner which Perot approved -- in line with family
values a'la Perot. I think that under Perot, individual rights would have
gone right out the window. In fact, I think Perot is (was) more dangerous
than any of these other right wingers because because he presented a facade
of rationality which neither Buchanan nor Gingrich can present. Certainly,
Perot was opposed to abortion, opposed to civil rights, opposed to gender
equality in the work place, anti-union ....
