FAA DETAILS VALUJET MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS

It sounds to me that it is the FRUITS OF CONTRACTING OUT rather than
than deregulation.  If ValueJet had not contracted out the maintenance
of their planes there would have been more accountability when the
pilots and flight staff complained of the problems.
