BRAZILIAN GENERAL STRIKE -- FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1996

The national labour centrals of Brazil are co-ordinating a general strike
of over 20 million members for Friday, June 21 to protest violence,
repression, unemployment and the murder of street children by death
squads.

Union demands include:

1) Establishment of a 40-hour work week.

2) Agrarian reform to benefit millions of landless peasants.

3) A fair and just minimum wage.

4) Better retirement benefits for all Brazilian workers.

5) Respect for trade union rights guaranteed by the Brazilian
constitution.

Unions around the world will be demonstrating in support of our
Brazilian brothers and sisters.
