[PEN-L:4689] Re: what is ...

I used a book entitled "Economic Issues Today: Alternative Approaches"
by Robert Carson in a general intro to economics course for non-major
freshmen & sophmores...first chapter is a survey of conservative,
liberal, and radical approaches (if one puts stock in the adage that
the view last covered most closely approximates the author/presenter.
..well, radical is addressed last in each chapter...if the adage
doesn't hold, then the treatment of each perspective is balanced)...
first half of the text looks at agriculture, consumer protection,
environment, market structure, government regulation, labor,
productivity, income distribution...second half deals with business
fluctuations, supply side/demand side policy, gov't deficits,
unemployment, military budget, social budget, international trade &
finance, and national economic planning...student comments were
overwhelmingly favorable...I taught this course for several years
in the late 80s and do not know if it has been updated (it was in
4th ed. at the time)...Michael
