[PEN-L:4686] Re: Labor Party

Laurie raises a very good criticism about getting rid of the image that the
working class is always pro-war. In fact, I think that as much of the
working class was anti-war as pro-war during Vietnam. Didn't the UAW come
out as one of the few large unions on record opposed to the Vietnam War at
one point?

A more appropriate image would be that there is no agreement within the
working class on war and military issues. When I was hired where I am in the
late 70s, there were guys I worked with still having daily arguments about
both Vietnam and Korea. Alot of the vets I worked with were anti-war
themselves. During Desert Storm, a few of the men I work with were all rah,
rah. But, a surprising number publically stated that they were opposed --
especially those men with sons in their teens.
