Weren't the sequence of events in France initiated by *students*
protesting overcrowded classes and budget cuts at public universities? The
unions were only pulled into the struggle afterwards, as I can recall.
While there are *many* dissimilarities, doesn't the above suggest
something in common with the dynamic of May-June, '68?
