Bill: I agree with most of what you said in criticism of the French
strike, but can't accept your implied conclusion. The left has suffered
so many defeats recently that any attempt to fight back must be
applauded. Perhaps you are right, the strike will amount to nothing. But
without a fight the result is assured of being total defeat.
	The recent one day general strike/protest in London, Ontario was
an attempt by the labour movement to form a coalition with other groups
-- women's groups, anti-poverty groups, etc. I don't have enough
information on France to know whether the same types of coalitions are
being formed there. The labour movement in Canada knows that it doesn't
have a chance without these coalitions.
	And now Belgium has joined the protests. Will others follow?
