[PEN-L:1788] Re: min wage in real world

While the discussion of the feasibility and impact of raising the minimum
wage is interesting on a theoretical level, on t practical level, there does
not seem to be so much worry over how much it might impact Kapital. On the
front page of Tuesday's (12-5) WSJ is a short note about some of the "living
wage" campaigns growing around the country.

In NYC a minumum of $9 is being discussed. Other such efforts are underway
in Baltimore, Jersey City, Buffalo, Albany and Houston, according to the WSJ.
The WSJ does not report similar efforts in WI and MN. I find it interesting
that PEN-L is caught up in debating the feasibility of requiring a living
wage. Who cares if it is feasible from Kapital's point of view. If we demand
it, and get it we will find out. If it is feasible, fine. Then we should
demand more. If it is not, and millions of people have joined the campaigns
to demand it, then those millions of people will be shown very clearly the
true nature of Capitalism, and just maybe stop supporting it.

Demand the impossible. Or nothing will ever change.
