[PEN-L:5213] Ideological Advertising
The recent issue of Scientific American has a four page ad from
Microsoft. The first two pages are a picture of a young black boy with
the caption in large type. "Business is the Engine of Society. Without it
there would be no jobs. No products. No Competition. No advancement."
Is Bill Gates feeling nervous? Has the American left been so successful
in the public debate that he thinks, the readers of Scientific American
need to be convinced? Doesn't American business need a boost of
confidence? Any budding semiologist want to attempt a decoding? Do we ask
Scientific American for equal time?
