[PEN-L:4741] Re WSJ's article on NAFTA-plus

Dear Pen-Lers
In case some did not get the opportunity to peruse
this morning's Wall St. Journal. The front page article about allowing
Chile into NAFTA has some interesting revalations. It quotes Gary Hufbauer
whose prediction that NAFTA would result in 130,000 new jobs was used as
prime ammunition by free-trade protagonists and "parroted by the White
House." Hufbauer now says "the best figure for the job effect of Nafta is
approximately zero."

And wonder of wonders, WSJ has acknowledged that "The hard truth is
that trade doesn't create jobs so much as it redistributes them from
lower-income to higher-income work." Are the roosters on their way home?
