Robert argues:
>Now substitute "Christianity/Catholicism" for "socialism", and
>you'll have some idea of my reaction to your latest post.
>Allow me my Catholicism _and_ my socialism, and I'll allow
>you your religious skepticism and your socialism. Then we can
>join forces in the fight for the latter, as I suggested in my
>last post. Maybe then we'll see a socialist "resurrection"
><sorry, I couldn't resist>.
well a belief in gender equality, equality of income distribution,
enviromental protection does not place me as a member of an
anti-life, anti-union, anti-women's rights,
right wing capitalist institution called the Roman Catholic Church.
so no, i don't think this is an issue of freedom of thinking.
catholicism (i use it as universal church not the roman variety)
is not a legitimate value system as far as i am concerned. it is
anti-revolution, defends the status quo of conservatism in both
economic structure and petty morality, it is responsible in no
minor way for the over-population of the planet and the resulting poverty
of many persons, and it has enormous material wealth and refuses to
dish it out to feed the poor.
so i would think that if you felt bad about that then you would ditch the
"institution" you align yourself with, and start encouraging the south
americans to practice birth control, allow women to choose how their own bodies
will operate, and forget the concepts of original sin which are anti-life.
and who says i am a socialist anyway? not me, once.
kind regards
bill
