WARNING: shameless advertisement for my book (and it ain't even
Dear Penners:
After much soul searching about what's "appropriate" for the list, I've
decided to err on the side of self-interest. WARNING: I am about to
advertise my own book which is not about economics.
Okay, for the two of you still reading here it is:
Garland Publishing Co. has just finally issued:
_The Rosenberg Letters, the Complete Prison Correspondence of Julius and Ethel
Rosenberg_ ed. Michael Meeropol.
ISBN: 0 - 8240 - 5948 - 4.
Order: Garland: 800 - 627 - 6273.
This book is exactly what it purports to be. Every letter that survived
(including many that survived only in the original typed copies from the
1950s) is in here --- every word, every spelling mistake, every insert, every
cross-out (that's readable). Thus, anyone who would have wanted to go to some
library to work with the originals to write --- well, anything, --- about them
as people: here it is in book form.
I did put in an introduction which treats the historiography of the case up to
and including the American Bar Association mock trial last August -- and
heavily footnoted the letters (there are a couple of references to economics
issues in the footnotes!!) --- but the key to the book is --- it's ALL the
letters that survived. In effect, the sum totaly of who they were.
(also included, both petitions for executive clemency).
Now: this ad is aimed at all of you who can influence a library.
The price of the book is incredibly steep: $75 (792 pages hardback) -- and
that's why I hope some of you will recommend that a library will buy it --
Then, of course, be my guest and take it out and read it!
Thanks for your patience. Now back to the downward sloping AD curve ...
