Re: "science" and "laws"



Y Varga has an interesting discussion of Economic laws
in his book _Politio-Economic Problems of Capitalism_.
I don't agree with everything he writes but I do accept
he view of laws as tendencies.

He writes:  "Social laws are therefore no more than tendencies
the development of which is constantly interfered with, changed
and modified by the action of counter-tendencies.  In fact,
there is no difference between a law and a tendency..."
He goes on to quote Marx: "In is preface to the first volume
of Capital, Marx wrote: 'It is a question of these laws
themselves, of these tendencies working with iron necessity
towards inevitable results."
