A Clarification

Trond Andresen has issued a couple of "not fairs" in response to my posts this
week about "progressive international positions" (PIP) and "progressive
nationalist positions" (PNP) in terms of economic strategy and the state.

I apologize to Trond and others for some sloppy drafting on my part. I did NOT
mean to imply "progressive nationalists" ignore supranational institutions
such as the IMF or World Bank. Those institutions obviously can have large
impacts on the agendas of progressive nation states and aren't ignored by PNP
people. I was trying to explain why *I* choose not to ignore them. Nor did I
mean to imply PNP advocates are not cosmopolitan; I was trying to explain how my*own* thinking has changed based on my experiences in a small, open economy
like New Zealand and in the U.S.. Of course, in being so cryptic, I can't expectPEN-Lers to be mindreaders! Assuredly, I do not mean to impugn the motives or
analysis of PNP advocates like Trond by setting up straw (wo)men.

I hope people will not get too caught up on the occasional imprecision in
drafting since one of the advantages of PEN-L to me is the "conversations" that can take place, albeit without all the usual face-to-face stuff of real
conversation. The topic under discussion seems not to have generated much
interest amongst PEN-Lers (it's all been said before; a sense of hopelessness,
etc?) so I'll let it drift....

Cheers, Brent
