sRe: socialism finito
In most parts of the former GDR there is a minority that is
growing very fast who have come to realize that a market
economy is not what they want. Some would settle for going
back to what was; more want to move forward towards a
genuine socialism. The younger generation, just getting
out of high school, have been shocked to discover, as they
tell me, that the descriptions of a "free market economy"
as given to them in the GDR and which they scorned as vulgar
propaganda, turns out to have been a rather precise, even
somewhat friendly, description of what they now discover to
be the case. These young people are not the young Nazis
you read so much about. They are strongly anti-fascist and
u urgently want a democracy that is extended to the economy,
the media, the military, etc. The so-called "Rights" are of
interest to them only if they include the right to have your
needs satisfied. Whether this group of young people or the
young Nazis will end up having the greater influence will
probably become evident withi a few years.
