You might want to check Chapter 2 of my POLITICAL SOCIOLOGY book titled
"Marxist Theories of the State" pp. 26-61 which provides a good
comprehensive summary of classical and contemporary Marxist theories of
the state written at the undergraduate level. The full reference is as
follows (it should be in your university library):
