At 4:30 am on Monday the cat was sleeping peacefully on my mother's bed. At
4:31 all the books on the bedroom bookshelf suddenly came flying off the
shelf all over the bedroom. The crude empiricist that she is, the cat
thinks the earthquake was something that happened inside the house. She has
been too spooked to come inside since Monday, prefering the safety of the
outdoors. But thanks to the scientists at Cal Tech, we know better than
that.
