sudden equilibration

Last year, I realized what it meant to be "Middle Class" here in
Los Angeles: we are too poor to be affected by the SoCal firestorm
of 1993 but too rich to be affected in a substantive way by the
social firestorm of 1992. Now I know what it means to be lucky.
The rapid equilibration of the earth's crust in response to
the shifts of the tectonic plates seems to have killed 33 people
but as far as my family is concerned, all it did was scare us.
Two of my wife's "test pieces" of art broke (being made out
of glass and sitting on the edge of the dining room table).
Here in my office, the only event of consequence is that Barney
Claus fell to the ground. Oh yes, the clock radio is flashing
12-12-12. I didn't see any damage at all between home and the
office, except for one street light that had fallen.

I'm glad I have nothing more to report.
