Dear OPE comrades,
Just a note of thanks to Jerry Levy, Paul Bullock, and Chris Arthur --
all of whom demonstrated high scholarship and straightened me out!
My memory was faulty in a) attributing the quote from the New Testament
(Matthew 5:7) to Marx, rather than Engels (except that it also appears
in the *German Ideology*, co-authored by them), and b) linking this
quote to the sentence "What all these gentlemen lack is dialectic,"
which is in a letter of Engels to Schmidt, 1890. Funny how the memory
works! (At least mine!)
Cheers,
David
