I think there are connections to be made: clearly the rioting can not
be understood simply as a reaction to the economic situation, including
the extraordinarily high rates of unemployment and poverty in North
African exile communities in France.  Other issues also shape these
events, including racial discrimination in France, prejudice against
Moslems, police brutality, and the complicity of all of the major
political parties in allowing the above.
